Family Year Book Competition Highlights

Dear C1a Class Parents,

Please read last week's School Newsletter carefully (Vol.15, No.32, April 5-11) since there were some important upcoming events described in details. If you couldn't find it in your email in-box, please kindly let me know so that I can forward it to you asap.

I'd like to remind you some key points related to the Year Book competition here in this post:

1) The deadline of submission is April 26th, which is only two weeks away from now. 

2) This year's theme is "Love". Please inspire your child(ren) to present his or her own "love" story by drawing picture(s) and writing simple sentences, all hand-written in Chinese. Please leave their names on the back.

3) We gave each student a piece of white paper on Sunday already. Please use that paper only, or similar quality and size to it, if for some reason you couldn't use it.

4)For each class, 3-4 awards will be granted, depending on class size, and judged by a special committee. All posters will be exhibited in the old gym between 2:15 to 4:30 pm on May 3rd.

4/12 Class Review

 

Above pictures were taken during the dictation quiz. Now, after learning so many characters, we can easily put them into simple sentences! So, instead of dictating characters, words, and phrases, like what we did in the past, I dictated four complete sentences. And they were like this:  小山羊吃草，不吃肉。马和牛也吃草。我有西瓜，她有鱼。我爱妈妈和爸爸。I wish the kids can feel this excitement too, of being able to write whole sentences all in Chinese! 

The new characters we learned today were: 欢、乐、听、音。We spent about 5 minutes in class practicing writing these new characters after learning their Pin Yin, stocks, words, etc.

The textbook topic for today's lesson was hobbies “爱好”. We played two games related with hobby vocabulary. From the pictures below, you can definitely feel how fun those games were. The students really had a good time today!  In one of the games, the students draw their own hobbies on a small piece of card. They all drew really well! 

 

 

4/5 class review

In today's first class, reviewed some characters by dictation quiz; we learned four new ones: 羊、它、和、鱼. 

 

 In the second class, I read the story "小山羊" from our text book to the class and then it was Tony's turn of telling us a story in Chinese. He did a wonderful job telling the Three Pigs story and I was also impressed by seeing that other kids were listening attentively throughout the whole story time. Nice job, everyone! 

 

In the remaining time, we reviewed the little poem that we learned last week: 各种各样的水果. It turned out that this poem is so simple and rhythmic that almost all students memorized it and can recite the whole song without looking at their booklets. So we took turns reciting this poem in groups of two.

3/29 Class Review

Today's lesson was about fruit. We learned the following characters: 我、有、西、瓜。

 

 In the review session, we did a dictation quiz. I noticed that many students were quite struggling. I will do this again in the next few weeks, to see if there's any improvement over time.

In the class today, we learned many fruits name in Chinese and made a little book titled "各种各样的水果(All Sorts of Fruits)." Reading and hopefully reciting the book would be one of this week's homework. 

We also started a new activity, where the students take turns to tell a story in Chinese, in front of the class. Today, Rain went ahead first and told the story "小马过河." Tony volunteered to be the next “故事大王.” So we're looking forward to hearing what he would bring to us next week! At home, please help your child(ren) to tell simple Chinese stories if you can. I hope they will enjoy this activity and gain some speech skills practice through it!
